Venus in Leo trines Uranus rx in Aries on Monday, September 18th at 12:27am EST. This trine may have us feeling restless with our usual routines, and is calling for a something new and exciting to take relationships, romance, and finances to the next level. This energy is also conducive for cutting out relationships that don’t serve us in order to seek individual freedom.
Next up this week is Venus’s move from Leo into Virgo on Tuesday, September 19th at 9:15pm EST. Unfortunately, Venus is in detriment in Virgo, as its accepting and embracing nature is no match for Virgo’s dry and to-the-point climate. While this aspect may be good for business due to Virgo’s perfectionist ways, relationship-wise, this aspect can create energy that is extra-critical, worrisome, and overall difficult to please.
Later in the day on the 19th, Mercury in Virgo opposes Neptune rx in Pisces at 11:50pm EST. While the energy of this transit is only felt over the better course of two days, it may have us questioning what we know and what is really true. This is significant, as Mercury will later trine Pluto in Capricorn on Friday, September 22nd at 2:01pm, potentially revealing what seemed unknown just a few days before.
The Sun moves into Libra at 4:02pm EST on Friday, September 22nd. The Sun is in fall here, as Libra, being the opposite sign of Aries which represents the mark of the individual, is more focused on the collective. Libra represents moving away from self-focus and into embracing others and assimilating into a group consciousness. Libra also marks the beginning of the Fall season and the fall equinox in which the hours of day and night are equal.
Moon Transits this Week:
Monday, August 21st marks a total solar eclipse over the U.S. at 28° 53’ Leo at 2:30pm EST. During this total solar eclipse, the Sun will be totally dark for a mere 2 minutes, 40 seconds. Despite this short black out, the influence of a solar eclipse typically lasts the better part of a year. Remember that eclipses manifest in erratic and unpredictable ways, and this eclipse in the later degrees of Leo will be no exception. Because the New Moon is transitioning from the later degrees of Leo and approaching 0° Virgo, its effects may impact not only self-confidence, expression, and leadership abilities, but also our organizational patterns and physical and mental health. Interestingly, the only planet that makes an aspect with the Sun and Moon during the New Moon/Solar Eclipse is Uranus by trine, opening a door for progressive or revolutionary change. Because eclipses occur in pairs, the energies of the partial Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius will precipitate whatever manifests outwardly from the total Solar Eclipse. The best way to be prepared for an eclipse is to learn more about the house and axis it is taking place within your chart, and what aspects it makes to your natal, directed, and progressed planets.
The second trine between Mars in Leo and Saturn rx in Sagittarius takes place on Tuesday, August 22nd at 9:21am EST. When these two planets work together harmoniously, all of the pieces seem to fall together with regard to physical effort and pursuit of long-term goals. Focus should be easy to reign in today, but be aware that results may come only with slow and steady work. The Sun enters Virgo later the same day at 6:20pm EST, adding a burst of efficiency to the mix. Virgo represents our natural inclinations to serve others, gather and analyze data, and master our craft. Virgo is also concerned with purity of function, and for that reason, rules the physical body’s health and well-being. These concepts will be the underlying focus for the next month while the Sun basks in Virgo’s high standards.
Saturn moves direct on Friday, August 25th at 8:08am EST. It is now time to implement the new structures and schemes we’ve had the opportunity to internally create. Saturn rules our sense of responsibility, goal setting, and boundaries and limits. While retrograde, we were encouraged to internally evaluate what regarding these concepts needed to be kept and what needed to be revised or discarded. With a direct turn in Sagittarius, we are now called to go after implementing and acting upon these realizations in an effort to gain additional wisdom and insight about our individual experiences.
Venus transitions into Leo early Saturday morning, August 26th, at 12:30am EST (9:30pm PST on 8/25). In Leo, Venus is drawn to become involved in the more dramatic aspects of relationships, love, and material possessions. You may feel more inclined to indulge in retail therapy or make-up sex after a spat. Venus performs especially well at about 19° Leo where it is in terms, which will take place September 11th, 2017. Later in the day, the Sun meets up with Mercury rx in Virgo at 4:42pm EST. Mercury is in rulership in Virgo, and while retrograde, can often carry insights and recollections from the past or the unconscious. Combined with the Sun in Virgo, we are being called to use information and lessons from the past to perfect our efforts in the present. This is high frequency energy that may even leave you with some butterflies in your stomach today, since Mercury rules the nerves and Virgo reigns over the intestines/lower abdomen.
Moon Transits this Week:
A New Moon in Leo greets us the morning of Sunday, July 23rd at 5:46am EST. This New Moon is taking place at 0° Leo, a transitional but fixed point in the zodiac. Mars is only 1° away from this New Moon, which will provide a burst of motivation and initiation to this fixed energy. While Mars can add a significant source of inspiration to this New Moon, Mars in Leo can also lean toward impatience, vanity, and selfishness. If you’re using the New Moon to plan for upcoming ventures, know that while you may feel lit up and on fire during this time, don’t burn yourself out or run others ragged with demands. Ego checking is sure to be a main theme of this New Moon phase.
On Monday, July 24th, Venus in Gemini and Saturn rx in Sagittarius find themselves opposite one another at 10:54am EST. Cold and dry Saturn has a serious effect on receptive and sensitive Venus, highlighting areas in our lives in which we might need to work a little harder and rely less on our personal charms in order to get ahead. You may be called to use a larger source of wisdom (Saturn in Sag) to harness Venus’s scattered priorities in Gemini. This transit is telling us to hunker down and get our act together, and this planetary pressure is likely to create great creative output if used skillfully. Later in this day, Mercury in Leo makes a trine to Uranus in Aries at 12:33pm EST, urging us to think creatively and consider avenues that might otherwise not seem appealing.
Mercury enters Virgo on Tuesday, July 25th at 7:41pm EST. Detail- and fact-oriented Mercury is in dignity in Virgo, where is excels at digesting the finer points and small details. Consider Virgo the data analyst and quality control center of the zodiac. This transit sheds a no-nonsense light on information that is presented to us, and we might feel hypercritical or analytical during this time frame. While cold and dry Virgo can sometimes be a buzzkill because it’s so factual and realistic, there is also great possibility to use your factual knowledge creatively and playfully with Mercury in this sign. Mercury will be in Virgo until September, since it will move retrograde in mid-August, thus extending its stay in its domain.
The Sun makes an exact encounter with Mars on Wednesday, July 26th at 8:57pm EST. This is a powerful and fiery conjunction that gives us the self-esteem boost we need to get things done. The next 24 hours is a great period to use your personal strengths to initiate a project, communicate your opinion, and take things by the reins.
Moon Transits this Week:
Venus in Aries squares Pluto rx in Capricorn on Thursday, May 25th at 12:22pm EST. Venus is already compromised in Aries, as she is in her most uncomfortable sign of the zodiac. With power-loving Pluto rx challenging Venus, power struggles and breakdowns may ensue. This transit is not one that facilitates romantic relationships or easy-going business partnerships. Pluto has a tendency to burn up and destroy whatever issues it comes in contact with. In some cases, this can be positive (think of the phoenix rising from ashes), but it can also be very uncomfortable and drastic. This is a great transit for finally laying to rest a dead-end relationship, but not so much for embarking on a new romance.
Interestingly, the Gemini New Moon takes place later in the day on the 25th at 3:44pm EST. This is a welcome astrological distraction from the awkward Venus/Pluto rx square. Pay attention to ideas that come your way during this time, especially with a New Moon in Gemini, as they are seeds trying to plant themselves for later development. Instead of focusing on what’s broken with the Venus/Pluto square, shift your mindset toward engaging in productive conversation and brainstorming. This is a great time for writing things down, taking notes, and drawing up pros and cons.
Mercury in Taurus is quincunx Jupiter in Libra at 3:17pm EST. In the quincunx aspect, the two planets involved cannot “see” one another, so their interactions are prone to misinterpretation or confusion. Quincunxes always require some sort of adjustment or revisioning, and with Mercury and Jupiter involved, the bigger picture must be reconciled with the details. Don’t allow this energy to overwhelm you--remember that the best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time.
Moon Transists for this Week:
Moon enters Aries Sunday, May 21st at 6:10am EST
Moon enters Taurus Tuesday, May 23rd at 8:33am EST
Moon enters Gemini Thursday, May 25th at 8:15am EST
Gemini New Moon Thursday, May 25th at 3:44pm EST
Moon enters Cancer Saturday, May 27th at 7:25am EST
Sunday, April 23rd
The Moon in Pisces passes over Venus in Pisces at 5:34pm EST, then enters Aries at 8:32pm EST. Its entrance into Aries will interrupt the watery comfort of a conjunction with Venus in Pisces where Venus is in exaltation. You may feel this energy shift as somewhat frantic or tense. The Moon sextiles Mars in Gemini at 11:34pm EST, adding extra charge and fuel to the fiery Aries energy. Since Mars rules Aries, it is currently dispositing the Moon, or guiding it, so to speak. You may feel confident or justified in your reactions to your emotional hunches.
Monday, April 24th
Mercury in Aries trines Saturn rx in Sagittarius at 4:15am EST. Your inspirations and inventions may feel challenged today due to Saturn’s retrograde movement, but take this challenge as an opportunity for refinement. Saturn wants us to put ourselves out there only when we’ve made all crosschecks and tweaks. Mercury in Aries will tempt you to act impulsively, so just make sure that you’ve gone through everything with a second set of eyes before putting it out on display.
Tuesday, April 25th
The Moon passes over Uranus in Aries at 2:04pm EST, Mercury in Aries at 4:29pm EST, and then enters Taurus at 9:56pm EST. The conjunctions with Uranus and Mercury bring us flashes of insight and inspiration, perhaps even motivating conversation, that at first glance might seem improbable or unadvised; however, once the Moon moves into Taurus, the stability it provides may shed light on how those ideas are more easily conquered or achieved.
Wednesday, April 26th
A New Moon in Taurus takes place at 8:16am EST. A New Moon occurs approximately once a month when the Moon and the Sun meet up at the same degree in the same sign, in this case at 6°27’ Taurus. When any planet is within 17’ (minutes) of the Sun, it is said to be cazimi, and is therefore amplified in expression by the Sun. The cazimi New Moon is an increased opportunity period that is best used about 30 minutes before and after the exact New Moon. If you have something important to accomplish, this time period is the most fruitful of the entire day.
Thursday, April 27th
The Moon in Taurus trines Pluto in Capricorn at 4:50am EST. This earth trine provides us with the instinct and motivation to complete the task at hand, but perhaps in an unexpected or seemingly impossible way. If your ideas are challenged today, look for a resolution in the place you feel least likely to find it. With Pluto in the mix, you want control of the outcome, but you must be willing to let go of being attached to the ways in which the outcome is accomplished. You may experience extreme emotional reserve or outbursts in response to today’s creative energy. The Moon moves into Gemini at 9:39pm EST, adding a intellectualized spin to your projects.
Friday, April 28th
Venus enters Aries for her second spin in the fiery, Mars-ruled sign at 9:13am EST today. In general, it has been a challenging year so far for Venus, with a retrograde period sending her back and forth through Aries (where she is in detriment and least able to fully function) and several meetups with Saturn throughout the year. This might result in feeling creatively spent or romantically challenged, or perhaps both. With Mercury and Uranus also in Aries, there is a lot of impulsive and reactive energy surrounding the concepts that Venus represents, including love, relationships, artistic expression, and money.
Saturday, April 29th
The Moon enters Cancer today at 9:48pm EST and shortly thereafter squares Venus in Aries at 10:59pm EST. The Moon/Venus square continues to compromise Venus in her transit through Aries. This square can result in feeling as though your self-esteem and comfort zone are being disrupted in the most abrupt way. If you can grow from any resulting conflict, whether internal or external (but most likely internal), you will be one step closer to managing the Venus in Aries transit which lasts until June 6th.
Sunday, March 26th
Mercury and Uranus meet up in Aries today at 11:06am EST, ramping up imagination and ability to improvise. Shifts in viewpoint and approach are almost guaranteed, whether you’re dealing with your immediate circle or a larger audience, but your thinking is on point today. Be aware that this transit can sometimes result in lashing out, exaggerating, or acting tactlessly, which can create a self-centered impression.
Monday, March 27th
The Moon enters Aries at 10:11am EST with a New Moon taking place at 10:57pm EST. With Mercury and Uranus fading in the later degrees of Aries, the entrance of the Moon into this sign regenerates Aries energy with regard to our personal stance and take on things. While you might lead with your own personal interest today, do so with compassion and concern, as the Moon meets up with Venus at 3:59pm EST, urging us to come from a place of love and generosity. The Moon finally meets with the Sun later at 10:57pm EST, resulting in a New Moon. With the energy of the Moon and Sun fused during this quick passing in Aries, we are blessed with an opportunity to perform to the best of our personal abilities.
Tuesday, March 28th
The Moon in Aries opposes Jupiter rx in Libra at 6:38pm EST. Moon/Jupiter combinations can sometimes result in indulgence, but this opposition with Jupiter rx urges the Moon in Aries to keep stoking the fire. There is more to learn and uncover about our place in this world and where we can serve—today is not the day to succumb to laziness or ambivalence.
Wednesday, March 29th
The Moon enters Taurus at 11:48am EST where she is exalted and therefore seeking comfort and grounding. This is familiar territory for the Moon—not quite home, but a close second. Since Taurus is the slowest and most fixed sign of the zodiac, today may not be the best day to establish a new habit or routine; instead, the Moon in Taurus wants us to slow down and enjoy the simpler and more decadent aspects of life, like good food, company, and passion. Getting outside today and marveling at the beauty of nature is not a bad idea.
Thursday, March 30th
The Moon meets up with Mars in Taurus today at 11:49am EST. While yesterday we may not have felt compelled to go anywhere fast, the Moon and Mars together create a somewhat anxious energy. You may feel impatient today as the Moon illuminates areas where Mars is struggling to make things happen, considering he is in detriment and therefore compromised as the fastest planet trying to make headway in the slowest sign. If sore spots are brought to a head today, it may be through an argument or two, but sometimes a step forward takes a risk or two.
Friday, March 31st
The Moon enters Gemini at 12:40pm EST, and Mercury enters Taurus later at 1:31pm EST. If you were feeling physical unrest or anxiety yesterday, you may get some of that on the mental end today. With the Moon in Gemini we are at our most active mental state, evaluating our communications with others and looking for ways to connect to information we need. Since Gemini is mutable air, chances are you’ll have multiple projects on the fire today or invitations to connect with friends. Enjoy the sociability of Mercury moving into Taurus, but know that discussion of taboo or sensitive topics may go round and round, as you probably feel you’re already equipped with all the facts and don’t need to hear the other side of the story.
Saturday, April 1st
The Moon in Gemini sextiles the Sun in Aries at 8:20am EST today. This is a great aspect for combining mental and physical capacity to get things done. Motivation and imagination will be working hand in hand today, resulting in individual productivity. If others are in the mix, be open to new ways of approach, which will satisfy the Moon’s curiosity in Gemini but give you an opportunity to intellectualize your inevitable success.
A solar eclipse occurs today at 9:58am EST, with the New Moon obscuring the light from the Sun and casting its shadow on Earth. Solar eclipses occur when the Moon’s path travels between the Sun and Earth and essentially blocks the light coming from the Sun. Additionally, the Moon lines up with the South Node during today’s solar eclipse. The Moon’s nodes are imaginary points at which the Moon’s orbit intersects with the plane of the ecliptic. In order for a solar eclipse to take place, the New Moon and the Sun must be conjunct one of the lunar nodes. This is why a solar eclipse does not occur every New Moon—there must be a node nearby for the Sun, Moon and Earth to perfectly line up. This alignment, known as eclipse season, happens approximately twice a year and lasts for just over 30 days (34.5 days, to be more exact). Thus, the energetic effects of a solar eclipse can last for over a month, even though the solar eclipse proper lasts a mere 7:30 minutes max.
Sooo...what does this mean? With the solar eclipse taking place at about 8° Pisces, and Neptune lingering dangerously close to both the Sun and Moon, this eclipse is bound to unleash our creative and escapist potential. When the Sun’s rays are obscured and otherwise “filtered” by the Moon, our feminine energy acts as a dream catcher of sorts in an attempt to capture and blend our left-brain (Sun) and right-brain (Moon) on an internal level. We are more prone to consider and confront things from an emotional standpoint instead of a rational one. So while creativity may be heightened, it will not necessarily align with the day to day reality in which we live. This will be exacerbated by Neptune’s close hold on both the Sun and the Moon, blurring the facts and general reality to the point of confusion at times. Neptune is the great embellisher of the zodiac, sometimes in the form of art and accessorizing (Neptune is a great bedazzler--more is more!), other times in the form of bending the truth to justify its questionable actions. Neptune lacks understanding of the point at which the ego defines an individual against a greater whole. This can add to its sometimes humanitarian nature, but can also fuel its proneness for covert action and vicarious experience due to a weak understanding of self.
Modern astrologers associate Neptune as the ruling planet of Pisces, which would indicate that its current placement at 11°35’ Pisces in the Cancer decan gives it lots of encouragement and leeway to take action (cardinal decan). While I do not subscribe to modern astrology and therefore use Jupiter as the traditional ruler of Pisces, there’s no denying that Neptune in its current placement has an intense effect on the solar eclipse. It projects denial of reality and lack of rules (Neptune thrives on the idea of unlimited possibilities) onto both the left- and right-brain, offering an enticing path forward, but one that might be fraught with booby traps or dead-ends. Let’s face it—Neptune is not known for its planning—it prefers to go with the flow. Without the Sun’s rays to brightly illuminate this path, we rely on the darkness of the New Moon to guide us instinctively.
With the South Node in the mix at 3° Pisces, we’re reminded during this eclipse of what our purpose is and where we’re destined to serve. If the North Node represents what we “take in” and experience this lifetime, the South Node marks where we’re responsible for disseminating those experiences. This solar eclipse, with Mercury conjunct the South Node at 1° Pisces, may have us feeling responsible for communicating the visions and realizations that we come to during the next month or so. The challenge will be to decipher what is real and worthwhile, and what is merely a shadow of the truth.
Mars conjunct Uranus today in Aries adds to this feeling of getting off our asses to do something visionary and meaningful, as it sets off a tight opposition to Jupiter in Libra which can magnify our spiritual endeavors and desire for assimilating abstract higher thought into our daily reality. This conjunction and opposition between Mars, Uranus, and Jupiter in cardinal signs occurring at the same time as the solar eclipse is bound to motivate people both spiritually and politically. Expect these motivations to be intense and inextricably linked, lasting for approximately the next month. Pisces, the sign in which the eclipse is taking place, can be a safe haven for like-minded individuals, but can also be an area in which one claims expertise that they may not necessarily have—keep this in mind as you identify how the energy of this solar eclipse is affecting you personally and which bandwagons you feel called to join.
The new moon is the phase in which the moon is closest to the sun and remains mostly obscured. It is accumulating light, offering the possibility of growth for our plans and ideas leading into the full moon. New moons are opportune times for establishing intentions for growth, improvement, and expansion and committing to acting upon these intentions.
The new moon enters Scorpio on Wednesday, November 11th at 12:47pm EST in 19 degrees Scorpio. Scorpio is ruled by Pluto which is currently in Capricorn. Capricorn is the cardinal sign that rules work, achievements, and practicality. This new moon is an excellent time to use the intrinsic properties of Scorpio combined with the initiative energies of cardinal Capricorn to dig deep and identify areas in which you can personally excel, challenge yourself, and move forward. Give yourself permission to indulge a little, as you might feel you’ve been overworked or extra challenged with something lately. Now is a good time to evaluate what is not serving you or what is holding you back and let it go. Recognize that sometimes slow and steady wins this race.
The moon is also conjunct Mercury, the planet of communication and awareness. Thoughts and motivations may become more introverted and penetrating. Seek intellectual stimulation through probing thought, inquisition, and self-reflection. Reevaluate how you communicate with yourself and devote some time to internal nurturing and rejuvenation. Conversations with others may tend to be deep. The motivational energies of Scorpio may also help keep thoughts focused and interest high, as Mercury’s energy can tend to be somewhat erratic.
Finally, the moon is sextile Jupiter in Virgo, the planet of expansion and the sign of analysis. Opportunity is everywhere, so get organized! Now is a great time to identify practical and meaningful ways to improve ourselves, feed our brains, and stoke the fire in our souls!
The motto of Aquarius, “I know,” and its keyword imagination speak to what’s taking place in this card. The woman looks up toward the illuminated window, knowing and acknowledging her higher purpose and aware of the need for coalescence. Aquarius is an unconventional thinker, and the spectrum of the rainbow reflects the myriad of creative ways in which it’s possible to manifest higher purpose. Uranus, the ruling planet of Aquarius, encourages us to do the unusual and unpredictable.
Another minor planetary association that could be considered is Jupiter, the ruler of expansion and positivity; however, Jupiter rules Sagittarius, a fire sign, and, to me, this card is leaning more toward mental activity rather than physical activity. Despite this, consider looking for Jupiter and its aspects in your natal chart to see what impact it might have on your higher aspirations.
Numerically speaking, this card is a 7 (16 / 1+6=7), indicating that an investment in some form of seeking, searching, thinking or intellectual exploration should be made or is already underway.
With regard to the new moon, this card is inviting us to think creatively about how we can reach new horizons, improve ourselves, find our higher purpose, and turn isolation into motivation. Look at the fire-ruled houses of your natal chart (1st - body, 5th - soul, and 9th - spirit, mind) which are known as the life or personal houses. The planets and their aspects in these houses can indicate how to leverage the physical action of the element of fire in order to act upon the ideas for manifestation that the air sign of this card inspires us to consider.
