This week slows way down following last week’s total solar eclipse in Leo. Jupiter in Libra makes a sextile with Saturn in Sagittarius on Sunday, August 27th at 8:15am EST. This meetup has these planets 60° from one another and able to see each other quite well. With Jupiter ruling knowledge, wisdom, and mind expansion, and Saturn in charge of the past, structure, and reality, this transit encourages being mindful and implementing common sense, something that is not a bad idea coming off of an eclipse.
Mercury rx re-enters Leo on Thursday, August 31st at 11:28am EST. Mercury’s backtracking provides an opportunity to work out anything that may have gone awry when it last coasted through Leo July 5th-25th. Now is a great time to make any necessary apologies, rethink a business transaction, and just generally come from a less self-serving point of view, particularly with the way we come off verbally. Saturday, September 2nd will really get the wheels turning when it comes to taking concerted action. Mars in Leo will trine Uranus rx in Aries, highlighting your passions and urging you to act upon them confidently with unique self-expression. Today is also a day that might incite shakeups with the way you’re used things being done and how you react to them. Regardless, this transit is calling for abrupt and high energy action—you’ll be the most successful if you use your original inventiveness instead of sticking to the status quo. Monday, August 21st marks a total solar eclipse over the U.S. at 28° 53’ Leo at 2:30pm EST. During this total solar eclipse, the Sun will be totally dark for a mere 2 minutes, 40 seconds. Despite this short black out, the influence of a solar eclipse typically lasts the better part of a year. Remember that eclipses manifest in erratic and unpredictable ways, and this eclipse in the later degrees of Leo will be no exception. Because the New Moon is transitioning from the later degrees of Leo and approaching 0° Virgo, its effects may impact not only self-confidence, expression, and leadership abilities, but also our organizational patterns and physical and mental health. Interestingly, the only planet that makes an aspect with the Sun and Moon during the New Moon/Solar Eclipse is Uranus by trine, opening a door for progressive or revolutionary change. Because eclipses occur in pairs, the energies of the partial Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius will precipitate whatever manifests outwardly from the total Solar Eclipse. The best way to be prepared for an eclipse is to learn more about the house and axis it is taking place within your chart, and what aspects it makes to your natal, directed, and progressed planets.
The second trine between Mars in Leo and Saturn rx in Sagittarius takes place on Tuesday, August 22nd at 9:21am EST. When these two planets work together harmoniously, all of the pieces seem to fall together with regard to physical effort and pursuit of long-term goals. Focus should be easy to reign in today, but be aware that results may come only with slow and steady work. The Sun enters Virgo later the same day at 6:20pm EST, adding a burst of efficiency to the mix. Virgo represents our natural inclinations to serve others, gather and analyze data, and master our craft. Virgo is also concerned with purity of function, and for that reason, rules the physical body’s health and well-being. These concepts will be the underlying focus for the next month while the Sun basks in Virgo’s high standards. Saturn moves direct on Friday, August 25th at 8:08am EST. It is now time to implement the new structures and schemes we’ve had the opportunity to internally create. Saturn rules our sense of responsibility, goal setting, and boundaries and limits. While retrograde, we were encouraged to internally evaluate what regarding these concepts needed to be kept and what needed to be revised or discarded. With a direct turn in Sagittarius, we are now called to go after implementing and acting upon these realizations in an effort to gain additional wisdom and insight about our individual experiences. Venus transitions into Leo early Saturday morning, August 26th, at 12:30am EST (9:30pm PST on 8/25). In Leo, Venus is drawn to become involved in the more dramatic aspects of relationships, love, and material possessions. You may feel more inclined to indulge in retail therapy or make-up sex after a spat. Venus performs especially well at about 19° Leo where it is in terms, which will take place September 11th, 2017. Later in the day, the Sun meets up with Mercury rx in Virgo at 4:42pm EST. Mercury is in rulership in Virgo, and while retrograde, can often carry insights and recollections from the past or the unconscious. Combined with the Sun in Virgo, we are being called to use information and lessons from the past to perfect our efforts in the present. This is high frequency energy that may even leave you with some butterflies in your stomach today, since Mercury rules the nerves and Virgo reigns over the intestines/lower abdomen. Moon Transits this Week:
Eclipse season is upon us for approximately the next 36 days! While this may sound exciting, don’t get carried away. The only for sure with eclipses is that they express themselves rather erratically. Examining an eclipse’s date, time, and longitude is best done when being compared to an individual chart, being sure to note the house in which the eclipse is occurring within the chart. Typically, eclipses are known to trigger upsets—but whether these “upsets” are either good or bad, positive or negative (for lack of better terms), is usually clearer once the eclipse has passed. Taking a look at the house axis that is stressed by an eclipse in a natal chart is the best place to start, but by no means makes it absolutely clear how the energy will manifest.
The partial lunar eclipse on Monday, August 7th will occur at 15°25’ Aquarius in conjunction with the Full Moon at 11:11am EST. Because eclipses occur in series, typically with a lunar eclipse followed by a solar eclipse (then sometimes followed by another lunar eclipse), the partial lunar eclipse can be considered a precursor for the total solar eclipse that will occur in Leo on Monday, August 21st. While lunar eclipses are typically manifested on a more emotional an internal plane, solar eclipses tend to express themselves externally. Thus, in many cases, the internal motivations of the effects of a lunar eclipse precipitate the external results experienced during the solar eclipse. What makes eclipses significant is their proximity to the North and South Nodes, our centers for karma and energetic intake and output in this lifetime. With a partial or total eclipse, there is upset to these centers, as noted earlier. Remember that eclipses are most relevant when applied to the location in which they will take place in your individual chart. Following Monday’s lunar eclipse, Venus in Cancer will trine Neptune in Pisces on Saturday, August 12th at 1:17am EST (10:17pm PST 8/10). Energy channels dealing with romantic, artistic, spiritual, and creative will be open for accessing this during this transit. Later in the day, Mercury goes retrograde in Virgo at 9:00pm EST. Mercury in Virgo loves to pay attention to the fine print, and during this retrograde period, that characteristic may become overblown. Take advantage of this time to lock down the details of your life and finances, but don’t become petty over the small stuff unless you want to stress until Mercury goes direct on September 5th. Moon Transits this Week:
Sunday, April 30th
Saturn rx in Sagittarius squares Chiron in Pisces, bringing old emotional wounds to the surface and challenging us to digest and integrate the lessons we have learned from those experiences. Saturn will want to ensure that we move forward, but in the most wise and sage-like way, which includes being able to objectively reflect on past experiences. Chances are it will have something to do with a behavior or belief that keeps popping up over and over again for you. Take some time to really examine what comes up today. Monday, May 1st There is a short opportunity period today (about 6 hours) after the Moon in Cancer squares Uranus in Aries at 4:23pm EST until the Moon moves into Leo tomorrow at 12:12am EST (9:12pm Monday for PST). When the Moon is void of course in Cancer, it provides pleasant and flowing energy since Jupiter is in exaltation in Cancer. Use this positive energy period to tidy up around the house, make overdue phone calls, and tend to others before the Moon moves into self-concerned Leo. Tuesday, May 2nd The Moon moves into Leo early today at 12:12am EST and then spends the rest of its day interacting with other personal planets, including a trine with Venus in Aries at 3:23am, a sextile to Mars in Gemini at 1:47pm EST, and a square to the Sun at 10:47pm EST. It’s not unlike a Leo Moon to want to get out and see the people, so to speak. The beneficial energy to Venus and Mars make charm somewhat difficult to resist today. By the time the Moon squares the Sun, you will have already made your rounds and convinced the necessary people of your abilities. Wednesday, May 3rd Didn’t Mercury just go retrograde? Well, luckily it’s back in direct motion today at 12:33pm EST. The internet can now stop blaming every snafu ever on Mercury direct, and Mercury can start functioning like its normal, butterfly-esque self. Thursday, May 4th The Moon enters Virgo today at 5:47am EST, then squares off with Mars in Gemini at 11:15pm EST. Today is a day for devoting some time to getting personally organized. Since the Moon is also quincunx (inconjunct) Venus today, this does not include help or assistance from the peanut gallery. The Moon encourages us to take inventory today so that we have all the facts and pieces needed for a square with Mars in Gemini, which will be quick to jump on the bandwagon and react based on accumulated knowledge, so make sure your info and resources are in order! Friday, May 5th The Moon in Virgo opposes Neptune in Pisces today, which is exactly the transit we need to help us convince ourselves that we are in need of some partying or a well-deserved break. The Moon in Virgo wants us to be hyper-aware and a little micromanage-y, quite frankly, while Neptune in Pisces is inviting us to the pool party. The best way to manage this transit is to work hard and then play harder, especially since it’s Cinco de Mayo and opportunities to do so abound. Saturday, May 6th Old emotional hang-ups and relationships are on the menu today when the Moon in Virgo opposes Chiron in Pisces at 9:40am EST, likely causing us to rehash every last detail of an argument, falling out, loss, or otherwise painful memory. The Moon enters Libra later in the day at 2:20pm EST, bringing our outer social world into the mix, and then opposes Venus in Aries at 11:22pm EST. This opposition may feel like we’ve been brought to our weakest or lowest point emotionally, since Venus is in detriment in Aries. We may feel shaken or as though we lack support. Use the Moon’s final Virgo energy to view and experience and past hurt from a detached and objective point of view before determining how it impacts your social or romantic endeavors. Sunday, April 23rd
The Moon in Pisces passes over Venus in Pisces at 5:34pm EST, then enters Aries at 8:32pm EST. Its entrance into Aries will interrupt the watery comfort of a conjunction with Venus in Pisces where Venus is in exaltation. You may feel this energy shift as somewhat frantic or tense. The Moon sextiles Mars in Gemini at 11:34pm EST, adding extra charge and fuel to the fiery Aries energy. Since Mars rules Aries, it is currently dispositing the Moon, or guiding it, so to speak. You may feel confident or justified in your reactions to your emotional hunches. Monday, April 24th Mercury in Aries trines Saturn rx in Sagittarius at 4:15am EST. Your inspirations and inventions may feel challenged today due to Saturn’s retrograde movement, but take this challenge as an opportunity for refinement. Saturn wants us to put ourselves out there only when we’ve made all crosschecks and tweaks. Mercury in Aries will tempt you to act impulsively, so just make sure that you’ve gone through everything with a second set of eyes before putting it out on display. Tuesday, April 25th The Moon passes over Uranus in Aries at 2:04pm EST, Mercury in Aries at 4:29pm EST, and then enters Taurus at 9:56pm EST. The conjunctions with Uranus and Mercury bring us flashes of insight and inspiration, perhaps even motivating conversation, that at first glance might seem improbable or unadvised; however, once the Moon moves into Taurus, the stability it provides may shed light on how those ideas are more easily conquered or achieved. Wednesday, April 26th A New Moon in Taurus takes place at 8:16am EST. A New Moon occurs approximately once a month when the Moon and the Sun meet up at the same degree in the same sign, in this case at 6°27’ Taurus. When any planet is within 17’ (minutes) of the Sun, it is said to be cazimi, and is therefore amplified in expression by the Sun. The cazimi New Moon is an increased opportunity period that is best used about 30 minutes before and after the exact New Moon. If you have something important to accomplish, this time period is the most fruitful of the entire day. Thursday, April 27th The Moon in Taurus trines Pluto in Capricorn at 4:50am EST. This earth trine provides us with the instinct and motivation to complete the task at hand, but perhaps in an unexpected or seemingly impossible way. If your ideas are challenged today, look for a resolution in the place you feel least likely to find it. With Pluto in the mix, you want control of the outcome, but you must be willing to let go of being attached to the ways in which the outcome is accomplished. You may experience extreme emotional reserve or outbursts in response to today’s creative energy. The Moon moves into Gemini at 9:39pm EST, adding a intellectualized spin to your projects. Friday, April 28th Venus enters Aries for her second spin in the fiery, Mars-ruled sign at 9:13am EST today. In general, it has been a challenging year so far for Venus, with a retrograde period sending her back and forth through Aries (where she is in detriment and least able to fully function) and several meetups with Saturn throughout the year. This might result in feeling creatively spent or romantically challenged, or perhaps both. With Mercury and Uranus also in Aries, there is a lot of impulsive and reactive energy surrounding the concepts that Venus represents, including love, relationships, artistic expression, and money. Saturday, April 29th The Moon enters Cancer today at 9:48pm EST and shortly thereafter squares Venus in Aries at 10:59pm EST. The Moon/Venus square continues to compromise Venus in her transit through Aries. This square can result in feeling as though your self-esteem and comfort zone are being disrupted in the most abrupt way. If you can grow from any resulting conflict, whether internal or external (but most likely internal), you will be one step closer to managing the Venus in Aries transit which lasts until June 6th. Sunday, April 9th
Mercury takes its hand at going retrograde today at 7:14pm EST, adding to the retrograde party already being attended by Venus and Saturn. When Mercury goes retrograde, communication gaps often present themselves in the form of travel disruptions, failed contracts, and general misinterpretations. Mercury is forced to slow down during this period, which is not exactly its comfort zone. This can result in deeper conversations and more time spent evaluating information as opposed to jumping to conclusions or the next best thing (true to mercurial fashion). With a trio of retrograde planets in the mix, sensitivities in general may be heightened, and we may become more aware of things we were not focused on before. Monday, April 10th The Moon joins Jupiter today at 6:58pm, opening spiritual pathways from which we can grow and discover new wisdom through experience. The meetup of these two planets can sometimes lend to sugarcoating circumstances. Jupiter is the planet of wisdom, and with Mercury being retrograde, be aware of how your words, however short or exaggerated, might play into how far you take your emotional expression. Are you walking the walk or just talking the talk? Tuesday, April 11th The Full Moon in Libra is at her peak at 2:08am EST, illuminating the shadows we’ve been hiding from, but also the fruits of our labor. This Full Moon’s emphasis is on change through challenges, with Uranus being only 2° from the Sun and more or less opposing the Moon. Uranus’s influence stresses progressive action, so creative and possibly erratic influences and ideas will be flowing with no obstruction. The Moon enters Scorpio later in the day at 6:42pm EST, adding to the probing and pondering that the Full Moon has initiated. Wednesday, April 12th The Moon in Scorpio opposes Mercury rx in Taurus at 3:40am EST, which may prove for a difficult or challenging day. The two fastests bodies of the zodiac are in two fixed signs, and with Mercury being retrograde, this recipe can be quite difficult. Stop and go is the theme for today. The Moon trines Neptune in Pisces later at 8:48pm EST, which may take the edge off of the stress and anxiety of the day. Thursday, April 13th The Moon in Scorpio is opposite Mars in Taurus at 8:04pm EST, which calls for another rocky day, and this time emotionally. Emotional outbursts or I’ve-had-it moments may surface today, especially since Venus, the dispositor of Mars in Taurus, is still retrograde and conjunct Chiron in Pisces, another emotionally-influenced planetary body and sign. Friday, April 14th The Sun and Uranus meet up for their yearly encounter at 1:30am EST, potentially adding to the chaos of the past several days. Change may feel afoot, which is both exciting and scary. This is the vibe that the merging of these two bodies will create. The Moon enters Sagittarius today at 6:27am EST, calling us to act upon personal wisdom and justice. Saturday, April 15th Venus goes direct today at 6:18am EST! Anyone affected by emotional or romantic hardship will be relieved to know that Venus is back to her regular self. Her impact extends to Mercury, Mars (both in Taurus), and Jupiter (in Libra), creating more fluid energy flow to and from those planets. You may notice blockages lift in areas where your personal chart is affected, and there will also be a sense of overall well-being and creativity today as Venus gets her groove back. Sunday, January 8th
Anyone who was feeling the undertow of Mercury retrograde will breath a sigh of relief in knowing that Mercury goes direct today at 4:43am EST! If you were holding your breath during retrograde or revisiting or reworking areas of your life, you can now begin to relax some and focus on implementing the plans you forged. This transit is supported by the Moon moving into Gemini at 5:06pm today, making mental activity second nature. Good ideas might seem like they are everywhere! Mercury moves into Capricorn later this week on Thursday the 12th at 9:03am, which provides a boost of cardinal energy that encourages initiation, organization, and drive to pull through. Don’t get too loose, though, as Mercury is still in a retrograde shadow as it clears its retrograde path, which will take place on Saturday the 14th. Those who were deeply affected by this retrograde will want to be aware that they may still be susceptible to retrograde energy even after Mercury has turned direct. Monday, January 9th The Moon steps into the ring today and sqaures up with Venus, Neptune, and Mars, all in Pisces. Expect heavy emotional fog today and reactions that are based purely on instinct and feeling, possibly to the point of feeling victimized if you allow it. With the Moon in Gemini squaring all of these planets in Pisces throughout the day, your best flow of energy probably lies in rational decision making that surveys and analyzes all the facts. Activate your left brain to make it through today. Tuesday, January 10th Moon in Gemini opposite Saturn in Sagittarius at 5:32am EST today sets us up for really reeling in all of the ideas we’ve conjured up since the Moon entered Gemini and considering their feasibility for long term implementation. Saturn in Sagittarius wants to cross-check everything that the Moon in Gemini has come up with to make sure that it will stand the test of time. The Moon will also oppose Mercury in Sagittarius today at 4:38pm EST. You may experience challenges to your ideas today--be prepared to make sure they’ll hold up. After opposing Saturn and Mercury in Sag, the Moon is void of course for about 50 minutes before enters Cancer today at 5:49pm where it’s right at home, providing some emotional comfort to relieve the challenging energy oppositions it encountered earlier in the day. Wednesday, January 11th Moon in Cancer is trine Venus in Pisces today at 7:51am EST. This lovely energy pattern should bring out the best of you in both the physical and spiritual realms. Aesthetic creativity will come naturally and intuition will be on high alert. Take some time to fluff up your house and home and just enjoy the positivity that comes with this trine. Thursday, January 12th Today is LOADED with planetary energy, starting with the full Moon in Cancer at 6:43am EST. The full Moon forms a grand cross in the cardinal signs, resulting in powerful and perhaps uncontrollable energy patterns with Uranus in Aries (unpredictability), Jupiter in Libra (exaggeration), and the Sun in Capricorn (initiation). Normally full moons are a time to survey the results of what you planted during the new moon, but this full moon is still sending out energy waves that encourage us to continue to act in extreme ways, particularly with Uranus being in Aries--a planet and sign that love impulsive action and unpredictably. Venus and Neptune also line up today in a conjunction in Pisces at 4:54pm EST, so the emotional fog keeps rolling in. If you feel like you need to bunker down today, but all means, please do so! All I can say is, good luck! Friday, January 13th Friday the 13th, eek! Some minor planetary aspects take place today, but I think it’s safe to say that everyone will still be recovering from the energy of yesterday’s full moon. Cheers to a low-key Friday the 13th. Saturday, January 14th The Moon in Virgo forms a trine with Mercury in Capricorn late in the day (10:59 PST for you west coasters and 1:59am EST on the 15th for east coasters), so the focus is on organizing the details and sweating the small stuff! This is what the Moon in Virgo does best, and it’s supported by Mercury in business-loving Capricorn. Gather all your facts and make business contacts today and into tomorrow--you’re bound to look like a superstar who knows their stuff! Remember that while these transits will be happening real-time, they are also moving through your natal chart and impacting your native planetary placements. To learn how these transits might affect you specifically, contact me for a natal chart reading! Mercury, the messenger and trickster, moves into Sagittarius today at 9:17am EST. Mercury is moving out of Capricorn, where achievements and business matters take place, and back into Sagittarius where communication tends to focus on and analyze the bigger picture, often in a brusque and in-your-face type of way. This is because Sagittarius feels passionate about justice and the wisdom that comes from experience, but Mercury is in detriment in this sign, so even though words may come from a place of truth, they can be cutting and ultimately a liability. Mercury has been in retrograde (Rx) since December 19, 2016. Its status as retrograde is due to cosmic movement in which Mercury appears to move backward through the constellations from our view on Earth. This is partially due to the fact that Mercury has a much shorter orbit around the Sun (88 days vs. 365 days) and partially due to the Earth’s position at a ~23.5° angle on the ecliptic. Mercury retrograde often calls us to reevaluate how we’re communicating, both to ourselves and with others. Communications during these periods may be slow, misconstrued, or redundant. Technology falters, plans don’t pan out, and lots of times people or things from our past resurface. Mercury retrograde in Capricorn may have had us reaching out to old business contacts or reevaluating where we’re putting our energy with regard to work and career. Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius is now asking us to reconsider our morals and values and challenges us to seek higher thought and full truth before speaking out. There may be an instinct to learn something new or even go back to school at this time. Travel during Mercury retrograde should be carefully planned. Sagittarius is always on the move, but Mercury also rules transit and will want to pull back or retreat while retrograde, which has the potential to create delays. Since Mercury goes retrograde approximately three times per year, the cosmos give us ample opportunity to reflect, reconsider, and reevaluate. Mercury is a fast moving planet and one that dominates important day-to-day actions like communication, messages, commerce, transit, and jokes, amongst other things. It went retrograde on December 19, 2016 and is scheduled to go direct on Saturday, January 8th at 4:43am EST. Be aware, however, that there is a retrograde shadow that can last approximately two weeks after Mercury goes direct as it completely clears its retrograde path. Mercury entering Sagittarius will square the Moon in Pisces at 11:17am EST today. This may result in a juxtaposition of seeking comfort through dreams, visualization, and fantasy with having to speak and communicate from a rational and logical standpoint. The moon will be approaching Mercury in retrograde after an exact square, urging us to bring our dreams into concrete thoughts and spoken words, which in turn aids in the co-creation of our lives. Each thought we have has energetic power, but we must bring it into existence. This energy combination is challenging due to the square aspect and requires us to blend the characteristics of opposite elements: fire and water, which may be uncomfortable or even seem unfair at times. Know that this energy pattern exists today so that if it manifests in your life, you can act unbiasedly and from a place of your greatest energetic potential.
