Sun in Cancer - June 21st, 2017 12:54am EST

6/21/2017

The Sun represents the essential energy that illuminates the rest of existence. The Sun represents light, consciousness, will, power, desire, and experience.

When the Sun moves into Cancer, our emotional intelligence is illuminated. Cancer, the second cardinal sign of the zodiac, connects us with our roots and our source of being. Because Cancer represents our emotional awareness, it is also closely attuned with the past, particularly our childhoods, family histories, and our homelands. With an emphasis on the past and the home, Cancer symbolizes the need for emotional safety and security. In turn, Cancer expresses this outwardly through its naturally generous and nurturing nature, particularly as a reflection of what it has already experienced from others. Cancer genuinely wants you to be a part of its community because its nature is to be concerned with the family and inclusion—Cancer also takes its “framily” very seriously. Ever notice that Cancers have great memories? This is because Cancer is ruled by the Moon, which represents the emotional mind. When events or circumstances leave lasting impressions on us, it is usually through the Moon, and therefore Cancer, that we recall these experiences.

Cancer’s motto is, “I feel.”

For those fortunate to be born with the Sun in Cancer, you are likely to be caring, protective, patriotic, sensitive, and deeply attached to your family and personal interests.

The house in which you have Cancer in your chart shows the areas of your life in which you seek emotional security, protection, familial service, and support.

Astrology for the Week of June 18th, 2017

6/17/2017

On Sunday, June 18th, Mercury in Gemini opposes Saturn rx in Sagittarius at 3:07pm EST. Decision making will be key over the next two days or so, and Saturn is demanding that you choose wisely. Don’t sweat this transit too much, since Mercury in Gemini is well-armed with facts and opinions, but it’s possible you might feel pigeonholed into having to choose between options you don’t like. The energy from this transit can be used to get things organized and grab ahold of your ambition, just be discerning about where you place your mental energy.

The Sun enters Cancer on Wednesday, June 21st at 12:24am EST. The Sun’s movement into cardinal Cancer marks the summer solstice in which the Sun is at its highest peak and will continue to decline until it enters Capricorn for the winter solstice in December. In Cancer, the Sun sheds light on our emotional well-being, home, and family life. It embodies the feminine divine that we all have, and it rules our intuitive sensing. Over the next month or so, you may feel emphasis that the Sun has in these aspects of your life depending on where Cancer falls in your natal chart.

Mercury is not too far behind the Sun, and changes from Gemini to Cancer shortly thereafter at 5:57am EST. Mercury is out of bounds at this point, high above the Sun’s orbit. In Gemini, it is able to look out objectively, but as it transitions into Cancer and embarks on its descent closer to the Sun’s orbit, communications become more instinctual and intuitive with a sense of urgency to get things done. Your gut responses may feel strong following this change of sign, so know that they are in tune with your inner energy.

A Full Moon in Cancer takes place Friday, June 23rd at 10:31pm EST. The Moon is the ruler of Cancer and therefore is in essential dignity. During this Full Moon phase, it is able to function to the best of its abilities. The Full Moon in Cancer instinctually sends us back to our home or a place where we feel secure and comforted. Those who are Cancer or water dominant may feel great pleasure in being a homebody and sprucing up their personal space. Emotional connections will take precedence during this Full Moon, so don’t be surprised if you feel compelled to reach out to loved ones or those who are important to you during this time.

Venus in Taurus trines Pluto rx in Capricorn for the first time in 2017 on Saturday, June 24th. With the trine energy, these two planets will work together. Venus in Taurus is in essential dignity and at the height of her feminine and sexual expression. With a trine to Pluto, a planet notorious for the darker side of sexual pursuits, Venus is set up for some serious attraction and lust today, but know that any trysts that come of this trine may not necessarily stand the test of time, as Pluto loves to break things down in order to start something new. Enjoy the energy and sexual release if this transit finds you today. This is also a fantastic transit for business and leadership endeavors, just know that they may eventually morph into something very different from what they first started out as.

Moon Transits this Week:
  • Moon enters Taurus Monday, June 19th at 5:53pm EST
  • Moon enters Gemini Wednesday, June 21st at 6:44pm EST
  • Moon enters Cancer Friday, June 23rd at 6:07pm EST

Planetary Energy March 19-25, 2017

3/19/2017

Sunday, March 19th
The Moon in Sagittarius is sextile Jupiter in Libra at 4:36pm EST which brings good energy for interacting with the outside world today. Your judge of character will be aided by this transit in the event that the Moon square Chiron has you feeling like you’re in a familiar but uncomfortable situation. The Sun is also making its exit from Pisces over the next day, at which point it will complete a full zodiacal year. This transit is putting the dream to bed and gearing up for doing the work to make it happen.

Monday, March 20th
Hey, Aries! The Sun moves into its exaltation in Aries today at 6:29am EST. Having completed a full cycle through the zodiac, it’s now ready to start again and initiate a new project or practice. 0° Aries is a powerful point in any chart, so people with an Aries ascendant will definitely be feeling the vigorous energy the Sun exudes on this special day. While not in rulership, the Sun is considered an honored guest in Aries and therefore expects nothing but the best. Our expectations may be high today, which is perfectly fine as long as they don’t become overbearing. The Moon meets up with Saturn shortly thereafter at 6:37am EST, then makes its way into Capricorn at 11:31am EST. With the Sun in Aries square the Moon in Capricorn (two cardinal signs) at 11:58am EST, today is sure to be business oriented and fruitful for getting things done. The energy for today may feel a little frantic, but it exhausted satisfaction is sometimes the best feeling.

Tuesday, March 21st
The Moon comes into contact with three of our most important personal planets today, starting with a square to Venus early at 2:32am EST (Monday night for westcoasters). The Moon in dertiment in Capricorn square Venus in detriment in Aries results in a dryness that neither the Moon nor Venus are entirely comfortable with. This energy is all about taking care of what needs to get done with no extra frills or sentiment, which is supported by the Moon trine Mars in Taurus aspect at 3:43am EST. Our instinct is challenging us to get things squared away before we can enjoy the fruits of our labor. With the Moon square Mercury in Aries at 6:20pm EST, we’re likely juggling multiple obligations today that may have us running nonstop.

Wednesday, March 22nd
The Moon passes over Pluto today at 1:32am EST, activating the Uranus/Jupiter/Pluto t-square that has been present for some time now. With Pluto activated by the Moon, new revelations make themselves clear today. Issues in relationships may come to a head today, but you are equipped to deal with what presents itself. Today would be a good opportunity to close up open issues or wounds with the Moon sextile Chiron at 1:09pm EST. The Moon later moves into Aquarius at 10:28pm EST, offering a more well-rounded awareness of how we fall into place in our environment.

Thursday, March 23rd
The Moon in Aquarius sextiles the Sun in Aries at 3:58am EST today, helping us integrate our internal motivations with our external actions. Today would be a good day to pursue initiating that new plan or taking the next step, as there is alignment between the Moon and Sun. The Moon sextiles Venus at 10:06am EST, which may reinvigorate our passion and inspiration. Use these two aspects to break through any roadblocks or setbacks when the Moon squares up with Mars in Taurus at 5:20pm EST. Remember that growth should be fun!

Friday, March 24th
Mercury in Aries opposes Jupiter rx in Libra today at 8:45am EST. Jupiter rx is grounding us from getting too carried away with Mercury in Aries. While this aspect can sometimes result in going overboard, Jupiter rx pulls away, deflating Mercury of the air it needs to keep the fire of Aries going strong. This is an aspect that challenges us to reorganize and repurpose our outward expression for a more refined approach. If we want to reach people today, it will need to be done by speaking truthfully but in a way that isn’t offensive or abrupt. The Moon trine Jupiter at 12:03pm EST knows that how you package your message is everything. Stay true to your authentic self and use your quirks to your advantage, but do so in a way that seems well put together and you’re bound to make an impact.

Saturday, March 25th
The Moon enters Pisces today at 6:06am, reconnecting us to our spiritual side and ushering us toward creative openings that may not have been obvious before. The Sun meets up with Venus in Aries at 6:17am EST, adding to the artistic and comfortable vibe for today. In Aries, this transit compels us to take action, so artistic activities may prove to be quite satisfying and soothing with this energy.

Solar Eclipse - February 26th, 2017 9:58am EST

2/26/2017

A solar eclipse occurs today at 9:58am EST, with the New Moon obscuring the light from the Sun and casting its shadow on Earth. Solar eclipses occur when the Moon’s path travels between the Sun and Earth and essentially blocks the light coming from the Sun. Additionally, the Moon lines up with the South Node during today’s solar eclipse. The Moon’s nodes are imaginary points at which the Moon’s orbit intersects with the plane of the ecliptic. In order for  a solar eclipse to take place, the New Moon and the Sun must be conjunct one of the lunar nodes. This is why a solar eclipse does not occur every New Moon—there must be a node nearby for the Sun, Moon and Earth to perfectly line up. This alignment, known as eclipse season, happens approximately twice a year and lasts for just over 30 days (34.5 days, to be more exact). Thus, the energetic effects of a solar eclipse can last for over a month, even though the solar eclipse proper lasts a mere 7:30 minutes max.

Sooo...what does this mean? With the solar eclipse taking place at about 8° Pisces, and Neptune lingering dangerously close to both the Sun and Moon, this eclipse is bound to unleash our creative and escapist potential. When the Sun’s rays are obscured and otherwise “filtered” by the Moon, our feminine energy acts as a dream catcher of sorts in an attempt to capture and blend our left-brain (Sun) and right-brain (Moon) on an internal level. We are more prone to consider and confront things from an emotional standpoint instead of a rational one. So while creativity may be heightened, it will not necessarily align with the day to day reality in which we live. This will be exacerbated by Neptune’s close hold on both the Sun and the Moon, blurring the facts and general reality to the point of confusion at times. Neptune is the great embellisher of the zodiac, sometimes in the form of art and accessorizing (Neptune is a great bedazzler--more is more!), other times in the form of bending the truth to justify its questionable actions. Neptune lacks understanding of the point at which the ego defines an individual against a greater whole. This can add to its sometimes humanitarian nature, but can also fuel its proneness for covert action and vicarious experience due to a weak understanding of self.

Modern astrologers associate Neptune as the ruling planet of Pisces, which would indicate that its current placement at 11°35’ Pisces in the Cancer decan gives it lots of encouragement and leeway to take action (cardinal decan). While I do not subscribe to modern astrology and therefore use Jupiter as the traditional ruler of Pisces, there’s no denying that Neptune in its current placement has an intense effect on the solar eclipse. It projects denial of reality and lack of rules (Neptune thrives on the idea of unlimited possibilities) onto both the left- and right-brain, offering an enticing path forward, but one that might be fraught with booby traps or dead-ends. Let’s face it—Neptune is not known for its planning—it prefers to go with the flow. Without the Sun’s rays to brightly illuminate this path, we rely on the darkness of the New Moon to guide us instinctively.

With the South Node in the mix at 3° Pisces, we’re reminded during this eclipse of what our purpose is and where we’re destined to serve. If the North Node represents what we “take in” and experience this lifetime, the South Node marks where we’re responsible for disseminating those experiences. This solar eclipse, with Mercury conjunct the South Node at 1° Pisces, may have us feeling responsible for communicating the visions and realizations that we come to during the next month or so. The challenge will be to decipher what is real and worthwhile, and what is merely a shadow of the truth.

Mars conjunct Uranus today in Aries adds to this feeling of getting off our asses to do something visionary and meaningful, as it sets off a tight opposition to Jupiter in Libra which can magnify our spiritual endeavors and desire for assimilating abstract higher thought into our daily reality. This conjunction and opposition between Mars, Uranus, and Jupiter in cardinal signs occurring at the same time as the solar eclipse is bound to motivate people both spiritually and politically. Expect these motivations to be intense and inextricably linked, lasting for approximately the next month. Pisces, the sign in which the eclipse is taking place, can be a safe haven for like-minded individuals, but can also be an area in which one claims expertise that they may not necessarily have—keep this in mind as you identify how the energy of this solar eclipse is affecting you personally and which bandwagons you feel called to join.

Planetary Transits for the Week of January 8-14

1/8/2017

Sunday, January 8th
Anyone who was feeling the undertow of Mercury retrograde will breath a sigh of relief in knowing that Mercury goes direct today at 4:43am EST! If you were holding your breath during retrograde or revisiting or reworking areas of your life, you can now begin to relax some and focus on implementing the plans you forged. This transit is supported by the Moon moving into Gemini at 5:06pm today, making mental activity second nature. Good ideas might seem like they are everywhere! Mercury moves into Capricorn later this week on Thursday the 12th at 9:03am, which provides a boost of cardinal energy that encourages initiation, organization, and drive to pull through. Don’t get too loose, though, as Mercury is still in a retrograde shadow as it clears its retrograde path, which will take place on Saturday the 14th. Those who were deeply affected by this retrograde will want to be aware that they may still be susceptible to retrograde energy even after Mercury has turned direct.

Monday, January 9th
The Moon steps into the ring today and sqaures up with Venus, Neptune, and Mars, all in Pisces. Expect heavy emotional fog today and reactions that are based purely on instinct and feeling, possibly to the point of feeling victimized if you allow it. With the Moon in Gemini squaring all of these planets in Pisces throughout the day, your best flow of energy probably lies in rational decision making that surveys and analyzes all the facts. Activate your left brain to make it through today.

Tuesday, January 10th
Moon in Gemini opposite Saturn in Sagittarius at 5:32am EST today sets us up for really reeling in all of the ideas we’ve conjured up since the Moon entered Gemini and considering their feasibility for long term implementation. Saturn in Sagittarius wants to cross-check everything that the Moon in Gemini has come up with to make sure that it will stand the test of time. The Moon will also oppose Mercury in Sagittarius today at 4:38pm EST. You may experience challenges to your ideas today--be prepared to make sure they’ll hold up. After opposing Saturn and Mercury in Sag, the Moon is void of course for about 50 minutes before enters Cancer today at 5:49pm where it’s right at home, providing some emotional comfort to relieve the challenging energy oppositions it encountered earlier in the day.

Wednesday, January 11th
Moon in Cancer is trine Venus in Pisces today at 7:51am EST. This lovely energy pattern should bring out the best of you in both the physical and spiritual realms. Aesthetic creativity will come naturally and intuition will be on high alert. Take some time to fluff up your house and home and just enjoy the positivity that comes with this trine.

Thursday, January 12th
Today is LOADED with planetary energy, starting with the full Moon in Cancer at 6:43am EST. The full Moon forms a grand cross in the cardinal signs, resulting in powerful and perhaps uncontrollable energy patterns with Uranus in Aries (unpredictability), Jupiter in Libra (exaggeration), and the Sun in Capricorn (initiation). Normally full moons are a time to survey the results of what you planted during the new moon, but this full moon is still sending out energy waves that encourage us to continue to act in extreme ways, particularly with Uranus being in Aries--a planet and sign that love impulsive action and unpredictably. Venus and Neptune also line up today in a conjunction in Pisces at 4:54pm EST, so the emotional fog keeps rolling in. If you feel like you need to bunker down today, but all means, please do so! All I can say is, good luck!

Friday, January 13th
Friday the 13th, eek! Some minor planetary aspects take place today, but I think it’s safe to say that everyone will still be recovering from the energy of yesterday’s full moon. Cheers to a low-key Friday the 13th.

Saturday, January 14th
The Moon in Virgo forms a trine with Mercury in Capricorn late in the day (10:59 PST for you west coasters and 1:59am EST on the 15th for east coasters), so the focus is on organizing the details and sweating the small stuff! This is what the Moon in Virgo does best, and it’s supported by Mercury in business-loving Capricorn. Gather all your facts and make business contacts today and into tomorrow--you’re bound to look like a superstar who knows their stuff!
