Planetary Energy for February 27th - March 3rd, 2017

Monday, February 27th
The Moon in Pisces squares Saturn in Sagittarius today at 6:08pm EST. While on the surface this transit may seem difficult, there is understanding between the two planets as they both answer to Jupiter, the traditional ruler of both Pisces and Sag. The Moon in Pisces wants us to seek spiritual fulfillment and experience. We may feel inclined to blend multiple doctrines or methods today into one larger, collective approach to whatever it is that we’re working on or how we’re feeling about something. This is because Jupiter’s spiritual side and propensity for covering lots of ground is internalized in Pisces. Saturn in Sagittarius seeks expansion as well, but in an organized and structured way that deals with external factors. For my tarot readers, think of Saturn in Sag as the Hierophant. While there’s a divine order, each person acts as a cog in that order—one missing cog and the whole operation is bound to go awry. The Moon in Pisces wants you to discover new aspects, while Saturn in Sag reminds you to know your place. Balancing these two energies is the key to unlocking the next level of personal wisdom that can be digested by the masses.

Tuesday, February 28th
The Moon moved into Aries late last night just in time to meet up with Venus at 9:55pm EST. This is a perfect combination for the evening of Mardi Gras! Aries sets the stage for a take-no-prisoners night which promises lots of fun and indulgence with the Moon and Venus linked hand in hand. Mars and Uranus are only about 10° away in Aries, so there’s a creative, fantastic, and sexually-charged energy in the mix. Let loose and have fun with this transit!

Wednesday, March 1st
The Sun conjunct Neptune in Pisces at 9:44pm EST is the perfect energy for rounding out Ash Wednesday and acting upon spiritual realizations that may have taken place following Sunday’s solar eclipse. The Moon/Mars meetup in Aries at 4:48pm EST today wants us to take action based on what we feel is right for ourselves (Aries representing realization of the ego), and the Moon/Saturn trine later at 9:18pm EST reminds us of where we’ve come from and the sacrifices we’ve made/lessons we’ve learned. Ruminate on these realizations before the Moon moves into Taurus early tomorrow morning at 2:43am EST.

Thursday, March 2nd
Jupiter in Libra opposite Uranus in Aries at 8:15pm EST is triggered by a t-square with Pluto at 18° Capricorn. Resources might seem tight, or even completely out of our control. Pluto in Capricorn is not just elusive, but destructive. Jupiter in Libra can indicate prosperity in general, as Libra is ruled by Venus, but being retrograde challenges Jupiter to look inward for direction when it’s normally used to looking outward at long distances. In a tight configuration with Uranus and Pluto, two transcendental planets, your awareness of what is true, how things work, and the natural order of things may feel challenged today. Innovative thinking and adept use of resources, especially outside resources, may be the key to unlocking the prosperity promised by Jupiter.

Friday, March 3rd
The Moon in Taurus sextiles the Sun in Pisces at 12:14am EST, and this is the first time the Sun and Moon can clearly see one another following Sunday’s solar eclipse. The motivations you may have encountered during the solar eclipse may make more sense to you now, as you’ve had time to assimilate them into your daily routine and understanding of reality. The Moon in Taurus sets us up for continuing to strive for the cause that’s pulling at our hearts right now, as the energy flowing between the Moon and Sun in sensitive Pisces is not easily  broken. The Moon will trine transformative Pluto in Capricorn today at 10:20am EST before going void of course, giving us a jolt of power. Your ability to “hang in there” today with both planets in earth signs is strengthened.

Solar Eclipse - February 26th, 2017 9:58am EST

2/26/2017

A solar eclipse occurs today at 9:58am EST, with the New Moon obscuring the light from the Sun and casting its shadow on Earth. Solar eclipses occur when the Moon’s path travels between the Sun and Earth and essentially blocks the light coming from the Sun. Additionally, the Moon lines up with the South Node during today’s solar eclipse. The Moon’s nodes are imaginary points at which the Moon’s orbit intersects with the plane of the ecliptic. In order for  a solar eclipse to take place, the New Moon and the Sun must be conjunct one of the lunar nodes. This is why a solar eclipse does not occur every New Moon—there must be a node nearby for the Sun, Moon and Earth to perfectly line up. This alignment, known as eclipse season, happens approximately twice a year and lasts for just over 30 days (34.5 days, to be more exact). Thus, the energetic effects of a solar eclipse can last for over a month, even though the solar eclipse proper lasts a mere 7:30 minutes max.

Sooo...what does this mean? With the solar eclipse taking place at about 8° Pisces, and Neptune lingering dangerously close to both the Sun and Moon, this eclipse is bound to unleash our creative and escapist potential. When the Sun’s rays are obscured and otherwise “filtered” by the Moon, our feminine energy acts as a dream catcher of sorts in an attempt to capture and blend our left-brain (Sun) and right-brain (Moon) on an internal level. We are more prone to consider and confront things from an emotional standpoint instead of a rational one. So while creativity may be heightened, it will not necessarily align with the day to day reality in which we live. This will be exacerbated by Neptune’s close hold on both the Sun and the Moon, blurring the facts and general reality to the point of confusion at times. Neptune is the great embellisher of the zodiac, sometimes in the form of art and accessorizing (Neptune is a great bedazzler--more is more!), other times in the form of bending the truth to justify its questionable actions. Neptune lacks understanding of the point at which the ego defines an individual against a greater whole. This can add to its sometimes humanitarian nature, but can also fuel its proneness for covert action and vicarious experience due to a weak understanding of self.

Modern astrologers associate Neptune as the ruling planet of Pisces, which would indicate that its current placement at 11°35’ Pisces in the Cancer decan gives it lots of encouragement and leeway to take action (cardinal decan). While I do not subscribe to modern astrology and therefore use Jupiter as the traditional ruler of Pisces, there’s no denying that Neptune in its current placement has an intense effect on the solar eclipse. It projects denial of reality and lack of rules (Neptune thrives on the idea of unlimited possibilities) onto both the left- and right-brain, offering an enticing path forward, but one that might be fraught with booby traps or dead-ends. Let’s face it—Neptune is not known for its planning—it prefers to go with the flow. Without the Sun’s rays to brightly illuminate this path, we rely on the darkness of the New Moon to guide us instinctively.

With the South Node in the mix at 3° Pisces, we’re reminded during this eclipse of what our purpose is and where we’re destined to serve. If the North Node represents what we “take in” and experience this lifetime, the South Node marks where we’re responsible for disseminating those experiences. This solar eclipse, with Mercury conjunct the South Node at 1° Pisces, may have us feeling responsible for communicating the visions and realizations that we come to during the next month or so. The challenge will be to decipher what is real and worthwhile, and what is merely a shadow of the truth.

Mars conjunct Uranus today in Aries adds to this feeling of getting off our asses to do something visionary and meaningful, as it sets off a tight opposition to Jupiter in Libra which can magnify our spiritual endeavors and desire for assimilating abstract higher thought into our daily reality. This conjunction and opposition between Mars, Uranus, and Jupiter in cardinal signs occurring at the same time as the solar eclipse is bound to motivate people both spiritually and politically. Expect these motivations to be intense and inextricably linked, lasting for approximately the next month. Pisces, the sign in which the eclipse is taking place, can be a safe haven for like-minded individuals, but can also be an area in which one claims expertise that they may not necessarily have—keep this in mind as you identify how the energy of this solar eclipse is affecting you personally and which bandwagons you feel called to join.

Planetary Energy for February 19-25, 2017

Sunday, February 19th
The Moon in Sagittarius provides a little boost of self-esteem to Venus in Aries today at 10:20am EST. Venus is in detriment in Aries and is therefore prone to act contrary to her nature. She feels the need to defend herself in inhospitable Aries, something she’s not necessarily comfortable doing. Trine the Moon in Sagittarius, Venus is provided with some extra wisdom and insight in dealing with arguments, confrontations, and generally uncomfortable situations. If your feminine nature is challenged today, focus on the bigger picture and forget about the need to defend yourself—it may only fall on deaf ears.

Monday, February 20th
A tight cradle is formed today between the Moon in Sagittarius with Jupiter retrograde in Libra, Uranus in Aries, and Mercury in Aquarius. This cradle provides boundless inspiration with Jupiter rx opposite Uranus, but requires a jumpstart in order to get in gear with aligning what we think with how we feel. While you might be safely tucked into your “cradle” in a lovely nursery, it’s the outside world that’s calling you today, which is noted by a plactic trine between the Sun in Pisces and Jupiter in Libra. You crave connection on a deeper level today and want to be seen performing good deeds. Saturn meeting up with the Moon today provides structure and insight into the steps you need to take in order to get one step closer to emotional fulfillment!

Tuesday, February 21st
The Moon moves into Capricorn today at 2:08am EST, reminding us to make use of our emotional resources, or work on developing them if you feel like you don’t have any. Capricorn is one of the most utilitarian signs of the zodiac, and while it likes to play, it doesn’t do so until all of the to-do items on your list are checked off. In the interest of your emotional sanity, start tackling that list today. The Sun in Pisces, the sign of union and transcendence, gives the Moon a little boost and helps it fulfill its potential. You have the best of both worlds today with the Sun and Moon’s placement to impart a little bit of fun and whimsy into accomplishing your goals.

Wednesday, February 22nd
Mars in its home turf of Aries squares off with Pluto in Capricorn at 4:03am EST today for the first of only two meetings between the planets in 2017. If you’re familiar with tarot, consider this meetup similar to encountering the tower—shit is bound to go down. To add to this potentially hostile interaction, Pluto is conjunct the Moon in Capricorn, exposing our dark sides. A t-square between Mars in Aries, Jupiter rx in Libra, and Pluto conjunct the Moon in Capricorn suggest that the only way to harness the current energy is to totally flip it on its head, examine it for what it’s worth, then put what we’ve learned to use. If you experience upsets today, know they’re for your betterment, no matter how disruptive they may be.

Thursday, February 23rd
The Moon enters Aquarius today at 12:17pm EST and will hold us accountable for any transformations or realizations we underwent with the Mars square Pluto/Moon transit from yesterday. Another tight cradle appears today, this time with Saturn in Sagittarius replacing the Moon. Again, we are reminded that mastering how we define our standards and how we communicate about what we know will lead us to the path of inspirational fulfillment. Are you seeing a theme this week?

Friday, February 24th
Emotional nonattachment is probably the best way to get through today with the Moon in airy Aquarius sextile Venus in Aries at 10:41am EST. While the Moon and Venus support one another, they also require a bit of escape from the hot seat they’re both in, with Aries and Aquarius being warm, and even fiery, in nature. Daydreaming might be a great reprieve back into the cool comfort zone for both Venus and the Moon today. The sextile aspect gives permission for this to happen.

Saturday, February 25th
Mercury crosses into Pisces at 6:07pm EST tonight, inviting riveting abstract thought, provoking dialogue, and possible mixed messages. Shortly thereafter, the Moon follows into Pisces at 7:24pm EST, setting the stage for a solar eclipse to go down Sunday morning (more on this next week). These two planets converge in a creative but escapist sign, which can result in confusion between emotions and how they are expressed. Chances are, you either won’t be able to find the words you need to express yourself, or the exact opposite—you’ll express yourself so adeptly that even you with be impressed with yourself.

Planetary Transits for February 12-18, 2017

Sunday, February 12th
The urge to collect, gather and hang on will be juxtaposed by wanting to break loose to abandon when the Moon in Venus and Neptune in Pisces oppose one another at 4:42am EST. Throughout the day, you may feel like you have nothing to do and everything to do at the same time, and either way, you have no idea where to begin. You may be captivated by daydreams all while knowing that you have things to do and boxes to check. Taxes, bills, debts obed, people to call back. You may feel vindicated in tallying points in your relationships today and feeling as though not only are you the hardest worker in the office, but you’re never recognized for it.

Monday, February 13th
Today will be more productive as Saturn in Sagittarius enters the picture and confronts the Moon in Virgo at 7:36am, shaking us awake and realigning us with our goals. You may feel like you’re back on the bandwagon and ready to conquer the world, though you better have all your ducks in a row. The Moon enters Libra later in the afternoon at 3:34pm, suggesting that increased balance is available if used properly.

Tuesday, February 14th
When the Moon in Libra opposes Venus in Aries at 5:51am EST today, it makes for a somewhat foreboding Valentine’s day. While you may feel like nothing is more important than being in good company today, Venus struggles to operate in Aries. There may be missed opportunities for compliments, and even an increased possibility of forgetful or tardy valentines. Lashing out may feel right but may prove to be wrong if you find yourself in this situation.

Wednesday, February 15th
If you needed a mulligan for yesterday’s romantic mishaps, today would be the day. The entire day is an opportunity period once the Moon opposes Uranus at 9:01am EST until it enters Scorpio tomorrow morning at 1:41am EST. The Moon later aligns with Jupiter in Libra at 11:54am, promising energetic opportunity and productivity in relationships. We are keen how we encounter the outside world in relation to our friends and family. The Moon sextiles Saturn at 5:30pm EST, so any plans being made are in a good position to be executed or built upon.

Thursday, February 16th
The Moon enters Scorpio today at 1:41am EST, welcoming any information that needs to be acted upon when Mercury in Aquarius sextiles Mars in Aries. Don’t be surprised if politics have you fired up today. You may feel drawn to mobilize toward your particular cause, or perhaps even discover a new cause. This may translate into trying something new or doing something a different way than usual. See where you can go today both mentally and physically.

Friday, February 17th
The Moon in Scorpio makes its last hard goodbye with Mercury in Aquarius is 9:18am EST, then enters an opportunity period before sextiling Pluto in Capricorn at 2:38pm EST. You may feel deeply affected by words or messages that are harboring truth and new ideas today, to the point that you fall into a blackhole of clickbait. Enjoy it for today, but make sure that it’s feeding your soul if you continue to engage.

Saturday, February 18th
The Sun moves into Pisces today at 6:31am EST, bringing in a spiritual and enlightened overall vibe. The general atmosphere may feel more relaxed and a lot more creative. We’re aware of others and may be prone to random acts of kindness. The Moon goes into Sagittarius at 1:52pm EST, adding to the optimism and stoking a sense of adventure and development of inner philosophy. Spiritual growth and development will feel just as satisfying as a night out today.

Planetary Transits for February 5-11, 2017

Monday, February 6th
Jupiter goes retrograde today at 1:52am EST (10:52pm on Sunday the 5th for west-coasters) and will remain in retrograde until about mid-June. This transit is just in time, as it will have us all seeking intuitive answers and developing our personal philosophies and morals. The normally excessive nature of Jupiter turns inward and admonishes us to clean up our own personal injustices so that we can address outward injustices on a large scale. Jupiter retrograde also gives us the capability to see a broad picture, which can sometimes be dismissive, but can also allow us to avoid getting caught up in the details of things.

Tuesday, February 7th
The Moon moves into Cancer today at 2:03am EST where it is most at home, providing some nurturing and sympathetic energy, especially after coming out of Gemini’s coolheadedness. You may be more prone to think from your heart than from your logic as this transit takes hold. Not to say that there won’t be some rationality today, as Mercury enters Aquarius at 4:35am EST, adding a sense of resourcefulness to the way we tackle matters of the heart. If you’re feeling more observant today or a better judge of character, this is Mercury working in your favor.

Wednesday, February 8th
The Moon in Cancer squares Jupiter retrograde in Libra at 5:00pm today, then goes void of course until entering Leo tomorrow. You may be prone to jumping to conclusions today if you’re caught in a situation in which you feel superior or smarter than someone, so be cognizant of this energy. Overreactions may prove to be a waste of energy that could be spent looking inward to address personal issues.

Thursday, February 9th
The Moon enters Leo at 4:41am EST, trines Venus at 12:20pm EST and then later trines Mars at 9:05pm EST. All of this Leo energy surrounding the Moon and involving Venus and Mars can result in excessive vanity, the need for attention, and drama related to personal pride. See how this energy shows up for you. You might choose to externalize the Moon’s energy by showering others with compliments, doting on them, and using your actions to serve others. The choice is yours.

Friday, February 10th
The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse today at 7:33pm EST is the first eclipse of 2017 and a time when emotional energy is at its highest. Since the Sun is in Aquarius (the collective) opposing the Moon in Leo (the individual), this lunar eclipse is bound to bring us closer together as a collective conscious, using identity crisis to create philosophical exploration due to the favorable aspects of both the Sun and the Moon with Jupiter. Know that the effects of this lunar eclipse can last up to 6 months, which seems promising considering the current state of affairs in the world.

Saturday, February 11th

The Moon enters Virgo today at 8:52am, asking us to check in on some of the finer print in our lives, including our belongings, health, and duties. The Sun trine Jupiter rx at 10:25am continues to push our alignment with the collective that was jumpstarted by Jupiter moving retrograde earlier this week.
